Billing and Insurance

Copayments

The US Department of Veterans Affairs has established guidelines for veterans and their copayments. Copayments may be charged for the following services —

If a veteran has insurance that is billable by the VA, the veteran does not need to pay his co-payment at the time of services rendered; however, if there is no billable insurance, co-payments should be paid to the Agent Cashier, main hospital, basement floor, ( room 0070) directly across from the pharmacy.

Veterans who do not make their co-payments upon checking out will receive a bill at their home of record within 30 days after their stay or appointment or for prescriptions.

If you have questions about your copay balance, please contact 1-866-290-9438.

Other Health Insurance

The Department of Veterans Affairs now bills private health insurance companies for care received by their enrollees.  You should bring your insurance card with you for your appointment and present it to the clerk during your check in process.  If you are required to make co-payments, the VA will offset your co-payment from the amount received from the insurance carrier.  Even if the veteran is not required to make co-payments, providing your insurance information to the VA, not only helps the VA defray the cost of treating the veterans, the VA will help the veteran by meeting his yearly deductible from the insurance company. What's in it for me?

Medicare/Medicaid

The Department of Veterans Affairs does not bill Medicare or Medicaid at this time; however, the VA does need to know if you have Medicare, both A&B.  You need to bring your Medicare card with you and present it to the clerk at the check in process.

Should you have any additional questions concerning insurance or co-payments, you may contact Shelby Mucha, the Facility Revenue Director at (910) 822-7935 or 1-800-771-6106, extension 1-7935.  You can also review information for veterans about the new Medicare prescription drug benefits.
