Health Education

Patient Education is a resource to help keep you informed about your health care, health promotion, and illness prevention.  The staff at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center has provided a number of ways for you to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle and self-manage your own health.

My Healthe Vet

The My HealtheVet site provides veterans and their families excellent, reliable patient education information as well as the latest VA News. Information about veterans benefits and services is also available.

Upon registering with My HealtheVet, you will be able to —

  • refill prescriptions online
  • keep personal food and activity journals
  • monitor your personal health data, such as blood pressure and pain levels
  • maintain your own self-entered personal health record

Health Education Classes

There are classes available to teach you about diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, weight control and keeping your heart healthy.  Please ask staff about upcoming education classes that are available.

Outpatient Classes

Clinical staff provides ongoing health education during regularly scheduled outpatient visits.  Education focuses on —

  • health promotion
  • upcoming tests and procedures
  • medications
  • diagnoses
  • treatments

Inpatient Classes

Clinical staff begins the patient education process at the time of admission, during the hospital stay, and at discharge.  Our goal is to provide a hospital environment where patients —

  • continually receive updated health information
  • are able to ask questions about their health
  • can enjoy as comfortably as possible their stay in our facility

VA Television Network

Patient Health Education, channel 22, is available in the Primary Care Clinic waiting areas.  Health education programming is available all day.  Ask a clinic staff member to tune the television to channel 22 if it is not playing in your clinic.

Krames on Demand internet

Krames on Demand internet is available to members of your health care team who have access to a computer terminal.  KODi has written health information available for patients to take home. Please ask our staff to conduct a health education search if you need any written materials to meet your health care informational needs.
