Fayetteville VAMC to host seasonal flu kickoff event Sept. 29 and 30
September 25, 2014
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Fall traditionally means football, cool weather and seasonal flu shots. Veterans enrolled for health care through the Fayetteville VAMC can now receive their annual flu shot in a variety of ways including walk in flu clinics, by request during primary care appointments and during flu kickoff event Sept. 29 & 30.
Walk in clinics began at the main hospital Sept. 21. Enrolled Veterans can receive shots, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 0048.
The walk in clinic is in response to Veterans requests and is taking place in advance of the planned flu shot kickoff event, said Katrina Canady, nurse manager, Fayetteville VAMC Primary Care Clinic.
“We planned to hold a kickoff flu clinic at the end of the month just in case delivery of the first batch of vaccines were delayed,” Canady said. “Fortunately, the supplies arrived on schedule. Some of our Veterans were asking when they could get the shots, so we decided to still hold the kickoff event but to start the walk in clinic right away in response to their request.”
The kickoff event will be held as planned in the auditorium Sept. 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to noon and will take place in a health information fair atmosphere.
