FVAMC Announces Visitation Restrictions Due to Flu Outbreaks - The Fayetteville VA Medical Center has instituted visitation restrictions due to the increasing numbers of flu cases reported in the area. To prevent the spread of illness among patients and those visiting our facilities, hospital officials are asking anyone under 18 not to come to the medical center or Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). In addition, people of all ages suffering from fever, cough, headache, fatigue, runny or stuffy nose, or body aches should not come to the hospital or CBOCs unless they are a patient. Patients with these symptoms will be asked to wear a mask while they are in the facility. (12/22/2014)

Fayetteville VA Medical Center to cut ribbon on temporary mental health modular unit, Dec. 17, - Fayetteville VA Medical Center will host a ribbon-cutting event for our 10,000 square foot modular building that nearly doubles the workspace available for Mental Health services to area Veterans. This facility provides more space to place current providers along with space to place providers we hope to recruit in the future. In addition, as a result of the increased workspace, mental health program managers can continue to convert the department into Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program teams or BHIPs. Fayetteville VAMC to host seasonal flu kickoff event Sept. 29 and 30 - FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Fall traditionally means football, cool weather and seasonal flu shots. Veterans enrolled for health care through the Fayetteville VAMC can now receive their annual flu shot in a variety of ways including walk in flu clinics, by request during primary care appointments and during flu kickoff event Sept. 29 & 30. Walk in clinics began at the main hospital Sept. 21. Enrolled Veterans can receive shots, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 0048. (09/25/2014)

Fayetteville VAMC Hosts Sweet Sensations - According to national statistics, 26 million Americans have diabetes. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. It is the leading cause of adult blindness, end-stage kidney disease, and amputations of the foot or leg. Medical Center Telephone System Upgrade - Last week, a new phone system and computer software was installed at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center to expand and upgrade our phone system. However, as with many new systems, come some growing pains. Medical Center Lifts Visitation Restrictions For Flu Season - Media Advisory: Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics have lifted visitor restrictions that were implemented in December 2012 due to an outbreak of the flu, The number of flu cases in the area have significantly decreased which prompted this action. Dr. Sherry Thrasher joined Fayetteville VAMC as a Neuropsychologist in Mental Health on August 13, 2012. As a Neuropsychologist, Dr. Thrasher provides neuropsychological evaluations to Veterans with epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological disorders. Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) Tailors Plan to Expand Mental Health Staff - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki recently announced the department would add approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce. Fayetteville VAMC estimates that 23 clinicians and support personnel will be hired to support mental health operations at Fayetteville VAMC. Veterans near the Aberdeen community can enroll in the VA health care system, receive health information, and find out about various services available to them through the Veterans Health Administration from representatives of the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.

The center's Rural Health Team will be set up at the Wal-Mart parking lot (store #1261), 250 Turner Street, Aberdeen, NC 28315 on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The team consists of a nurse educator who can provide information and discuss diabetes management and provide tips on controlling hypertension and cholesterol levels.  An eligibility and enrollment specialist will be on-hand to discuss VA health benefits and accept Veterans' enrollments on the spot.

Information about Primary Care, Mental Health and Women's health care for Veterans will also be available.

Anyone who served in the U.S. military is invited to attend the event.  Veterans are highly encouraged to bring a copy of their DD Form
214 (discharge paperwork) and last year's financial information to expedite enrollment in the system.
