February 1, 2011

The Fayetteville VA medical Center is hosting a Homeless Summit Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the center's 3rd Floor Auditorium.

Representatives from community organizations with a vested interest in ending homelessness, along with representatives from Veterans organization, local and state government will join with VA staff to discuss possible ways to help solve the problem of homelessness among the state's Veteran population.  Attendees include representatives from Cumberland, Bladen, New Hanover, Robeson and Onslow counties, along with representatives from the Lumbee Tribe, and from U.S. Representatives Mike McIntyre and Larry Kissell.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki has said that one of his primary goals is to end homelessness among Veterans within five years.  VA staff members designed this summit to help achieve that goal.
